In the Workshop

Greetings!
The rustic vanity is coming along great! I used a 2 1/2 inch thick Pine slab with a natural edge. I cut the hole for the Copper Sink and sanded it down to 220 grit. First I used a belt sander because it was so rough and then moved to a 6" orbital sander, slowly working my way up to a finer grit. I then put 7 coats of Vermont Natural Coatings Furniture Finish on, to protect it from water and abuse. It really is nice to use a finish that does not stink and give you a headache. This time of year in New Hampshire you can't just open the windows wide either. It dries fast and has no fumes, it is just a pleasure to work with, and there is a lot of peace of mind knowing that it is non toxic and is not oil based. It is just about done other than the installation and plumbing. We have chosen to go with an exposed copper piping faucet, to tie in with the pounded copper sink. This may change but that is the plan for now. We plan to use a quarter log back splash cut from Lodge Pole Pine. I will add some photos when the project is complete and functional.
